Design Skills:

Machine Design – Designed Molding Presses for liquid cycloaliphatic epoxy resins, 5-35kV Switchgear, metal enclosures.

 

Product Design – Designed 5-35 kV Bushings, Insulators, Industrial Control Systems, Motocross motorcycle rear suspension systems (won on first race test), 21 lb titanium race Mountain Bike. Currenly have three patent applications.

 

CAD/CAM: AutoCAD Certified Expert with 20 years experience. Experienced in SolidWorks (daily user), some experience in Intergraph I/EMS, Rhino, SmartCAM, NC AutoCode and Solid Edge.

 

Programming – developed programs for costing/inventory control, parametric product design/drawing systems, and interactive web sites. Programming over 20 years. Beta tester for AutoCAD, Solid Edge, Windows NT, 2000, XP and Small Business Server.

 

Tools – I can operate mills, lathes, punches, press brakes, shears, molding presses, MIG and TIG welders. I have restored and painted automobiles and motorcycles. I have operated and trained other on a Pashel 100 kV Partial Discharge test, GE 250 kV Impulse Generator, Von 100 kV DC test set, X-ray equipment, cryogenic test chambers, and tension/torsion/cantilever test sets. Experienced in hydraulic and pneumatic design and construction.

 


Marketing Skills:

Publishing – Expert in PageMaker, Experienced in MS Word, Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator, PhotoShop, Acrobat and preparing for pre-press. Ran the publishing department at Elliott Industries where I handled conception, creation, procurement, QC and distribution of printed material, catalogs and CD-ROMs.

 

Web – Experienced with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash, Web Express and HomeSite. Developed several web sites using simplest possible technologies for maximum customer compatibility. Conducted user testing for web site controls and layout.

 

Writing – Wrote product reviews for CADalyst and Cadence magazines (computer graphic systems and large-format printers and plotters). Wrote a monthly column in Plastic Design Forum Magazine. Wrote and edited newsletter “Tech Notes” with 16,000 subscribers.

 

Photography – Experienced in 35mm Black and White photography and darkroom process. Experienced in digital photography and editing for print and publishing.

 

Video Production – Shot and edited on ¾”, BetaCam, Hi8, and digital equipment. Experienced with non-linear digital editing to tape, V-CD, and DVD. Trained in 3D Studio.

 

Public Speaking – Regular speaker to Rotary clubs, PC user groups, AutoCAD user groups, and Colleges. I enjoy public speaking and I am quite comfortable in front of a crowd or camera.

Teaching – I have taught classes in AutoCAD, MapInfo, PageMaker, Excel, Word, Network Administration, high-voltage partial-discharge testing, and quality assurance testing.

 

Geographical Information Systems - Trained in ESRI products and MapInfo. GIS merges database information with Maps and Geo-photography for design, marketing and decision support.

 

Document Management and Large Format Scanning - Expert in scanning, conversion and management of large format (36" x 60") engineering drawings, maps, aerial photographs and artwork.

Management and Business Startups:

Ken Elliott Photography – commercial photography practice.

 

Elliott Molding and Components – Manufactured high-voltage bushings, insulators, custom epoxy components sold world-wide. I designed the products, molding presses, procedures, hired and trained employees, created and distributed literature, catalog and marketing materials. Traveled with sales representatives to sell OEM and electric utility customers. Worked on industry standards committee (IEEE/ANSI 386). Our design and quality were world-class.

 

CAD Masters – Started as an AutoCAD dealership, and evolved into a multi-line dealer. We provided our customers with CAD/CAM systems, PCs, Unix Workstations, Servers, Local Area Networks, Geographical Information Systems, Large Format Printer/Plotters, Large Format Scanners, user and IT staff training, consulting, and custom database-driven parametric design systems for manufacturers. We developed software, such as high-speed customer quotation fax systems and high-speed order fulfillment systems. Developed Internet web sites, e-business, online catalog and newsletters. Evolved into a CAD-Masters.com, a national dealer of AutoCAD and HP plotters, with a newsletter subscription of 16,000 users. We sold products from Autodesk, Intergraph, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Vidar, Cyco, Solidworks, and many others.

 

Elliott Industries – manufacturer of high-voltage switchgear. I ran the publishing department and Technology department. Designed and fabricated a fully adjustable jig to replace 100+ fixed-size jigs. Developed, documented and trained employees on closed-loop QC web-integrated publishing system – resulted in higher quality marketing material with reduced development time and lower costs.

 

Falicon Crankshaft Components – manufacturer of Billet Crankshafts, connecting rod, clutch baskets and other internal engine components for motorcycle racing.  I'm the Business Development Manager, responsible for sales, marketing, building the web site and all IT functions.  Click here to view their web site.

What's next?
- I'm currently honing my skills using Macromedia's new web development tools (Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX and Fireworks MX) and Microsoft Visual Studio .Net (Visual Basic .Net and C#). I'm pretty happy where I am with a good job and living two blocks from the beach. In other words, I'm not looking for anything right now.
